Another award – The Book Fests Award

Where do all these awards come from? I’ve only been blogging for two months! Thank you so much LLADYLITERARY for nominating me. Everyone, click on her name and read her Book Fests Award post. It is worth your time.

Books Fests Award

A book you started but never finished…but want to finish. What stopped you from continuing to read it?

A Fearless Travelers’ Guide to Wicked Places. Sadly I’ve only got it as a protected PDF, which means I can’t read it on my Kindle – and reading on the computer is not as pleasant. But I really like the story and want to finish it soon.

What elements attract you to a book, which makes you need to read it?

Covers and genre (fantasy). I think those are the main factors. And if it is a High Fantasy I’m in love!

Which books do you prefer, e-copy or hard copy?

I just bought a Kindle and I have to say I’m surprised how much I like it. I thought the books would lose their charm and that my eyes would start to hurt (they do if I’m on the computer too much). But it is really comfortable, especially compared to mass market paperbacks.

Hard copies of books, they will always have a place in my heart (and on my shelves). I love the feeling of holding a huge hardcover in your hands (and dropping it in your face when your reading late at night). Floppy paperbacks (those whose spine won’t break) have also found a way into my heart.

In conclusion, I do like e-books but hard copies are what I prefer.

What book are you currently reading or going to read next?

I’g going to finish A Wizard’s Forge, The Great Hunt and The Feareless Travelers’ Guide to Wicked Places. Then I’ll pick up Empire pf Storms by Sarah J. Maas.

Is it fair to judge a book by its film?

What book did you badly judge by its cover and ended up loving?

I have no idea…Have I read any ugly books?

Which book character have you felt the most kin with and able to relate with?

Jeez…not making this easy are we? Probably Raisa from The Seven Realms series by Cinda Williams Chima. I think I might have taken a lot of the same choices as she did and I understand her struggles. She’s probably much more badass than me though.

The extra question

Is your favourite genre of books the same as your favourite genre of movies?

Well kind of. They do make a crap load of bad Fantasy movies but when watching The Lord of the Rings or Buffy I can’t help but fall in love. Then I also love MCU, even though I haven’t read any of the comics or superhero books. And a good story in a movie is all I need (just look at Forrest Gump or The Theory of Everything).

With books, fantasy is all I need. Even though they release a crap load of bad fantasy as well.

My 50 Words Story

I thought I’d put the beginning of the HP fanfic I’m writing here. It’s still very much not finished and unedited, but here’s the first 50 words (out of 7000 at the moment, still writing).

They hadn’t seen each other for 19 years, but he still felt a strike of pain when he saw her. The platform was full of families and faces, all happy, all excited. They stood together, smiling, still together as they had been since their first year at Hogwarts.

He turned. Scorpius looked at him. It was like looking at an old picture of himself – with the blond hair, grey eyes and pale face.

“Where is Alastair?”

Scorpius looked around. Draco smiled at him. Alastair was also about to begin his first year at Hogwarts, but the Shafiq family hadn’t shown up yet.

“He will be here soon”, Draco smiled at his son.

“Speak of the devil, look who’s coming!” Astoria smiled and pointed towards the entrance.

The Shafiqs were impressive. Their clothes were expensive but simple, as appropriate for one of the Sacred Twenty-Eight. Both Mr. and Mrs. Shafiq were tall and brown haired. Their dark eyes were smiling at the Malfoys.

As soon as Alastair saw Scorpius he ran towards him, laughing, and hugged him with more force than necessary.

“Oi!” Scorpius laughed.

“It is nice to see you”, Mr. Shafiq said with his deep voice and shook Draco’s hand. “And always a pleasure”, Astoria received a kiss on the back of her hand.

And that’s all you get with 50 (+) words 😉
