Mid-Year Freak Out 2016

I’ve seen a few BookTubers do this tag and I just read it at luvtoread. I think this tag is fitting and a good way to see for myself what I thought about the books I’ve read since the beginning of the year.

I’ve read 23 books and to reach my Goodreads goal I’ve got 17 more to go. But now it’s time to start!

5Best book I’ve read so far in 2016

I do not think this comes as a surprise, it is Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I love the series and this book is my absolute favourite. It is as simple as that. I posted a review declared my love for it on Friday so if you want to read it CLICK HERE.

Best sequel I’ve read so far in 2016

The Well of Ascension is definitely the best sequel I’ve read so far, it’s the book where I actually liked Vin. It is slow at moments, but that was an issue in the rest of the trilogy as well. Maybe it’s just Brandon Sanderson’s style. However it was a great sequel with a story other writers would have made into a trilogy in itself.

Most anticipated release for the second half of the year

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child! I can’t wait! It will be amazing… And my first time reading a play. Maybe it’s time to read more different books. BUT WE GET MORE HARRY POTTER! This will be amazing… And it’s released today! I pre-ordered it so let’s see when it turns up. Hopefully the wait won’t be too long.

Biggest disappointment

I’ve mentioned this before, in The Galaxy Book Tag, it was a cover buy gone terribly wrong. Well, the publishers did some great work, the cover is amazing! But the story… Not so much. What book am I talking about? Sea of Ghosts by Alan Campbell.

Biggest surprise

I never thought I’d like this as much as I did, but The Book of Speculation was an incredible read. Erika Swyler created something really special in this book. This was a cover buy I loved! I fell in love with the cover to the left, which one do you prefer?

Favourite new author

Cinda Williams Chima, definitely. Her books I feel are written for a slightly younger audience, but they contain so much that you can’t help love the story, the characters and the world. I read the Seven Realms series and fell in love. Now I thinking about reading her previous series as well as picking up her new one! I’ve just got too much to read at the moment…

Newest fictional crush

I have to use the Seven Realms series again, because since I read about Han Alister there hasn’t been anyone more crush-worthy than him! You fall for him head over heals and he never lets you go. His journey through the four books and his character development, you can’t believe where he’s going when the series starts.

A new favourite character, that has to be Manon from Heir of Fire and Queen of Shadows. I you haven’t read book three and four of the Throne of Glass series, you’re missing out on the most badass, evil and incredible character. She’s so strong and powerful. I’m not going to tell you more, but especially in Queen of Shadows she becomes something completely different to the others and you love her.

Book that made me cry

I haven’t cried in any of the books I’ve read. I seldom cry while reading, I only think I’ve done it trice.

Book that made me happy

Auri’s story in The Slow Regard of Silent Things. It is the weirdest book I’ve ever read, but also one of the most amazing ones. Patrick Rothfuss has a way with words I just love. Sadly I can’t recommend this book to you if you haven’t read the first two books in the Kingkiller Chronicles. I don’t think you would like TSROST if you haven’t had a more normal introduction to Auri first.

Favourite book to film adaptation

Oh…What book to film adaptations have I seen this year? Green Mile was amazing! Or… Forrest Gump! I cried in the last one…

Favourite post I’ve done this year

I just started blogging a month ago, but my favourite has to be the Harry Potter Tag or the Liebster Award post. I had so much fun writing those two and they took up so much time! I’m proud of them.

What book I need to read by the end of the year

Wheel of Time book 2 and 3. I still got some way to go on book 1… I had hoped I’d have read them by the end of the summer, but it seems like it won’t happen. I feel embarrassed. Big books haven’t been an issue before! But these just intimidates me.

This was fun to write! It just feel like I’ve forgotten so much about the books I’ve read. I had to check my reviews all the time to remember my feelings about the books. And I realised my feelings have changed the longer it’s been since I read the book in question. So my ratings are sometimes a bit different to what I think now. Maybe I should write a post about the ratings I would like to change?

  1. Great post! 🙂 Thanks for the shout-out.
I, too, really love Manon. She’s my favorite character in that series.
The Book of Speculation sounds like a very interesting read!
